Romans 1:14-17

As we begin 2018, here are two challenge questions: Why would any of us want to be “anonymous” in our faith? Why would we ever be ashamed of Who and what we believe in? The apostle Paul states that he is “…not ashamed of the gospel…” Here are some reasons why:

I. The Gospel is good news! – Isaiah 52:7; 1 Cor. 15:3-4

A. The gospel is “the POWER of God for salvation”! – Rom. 1:16

B. The word or “power” found in Romans 1:16 comes from a Greek word (DUNAMIS) from which we get our word, “dynamite”.

C. Acts 8:12 gives us the proper response when men and women, boys and girls believe the “good news” – “But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.”

II. The Gospel is global! – Romans 1:16;

A. Part of the “Good News” of the gospel is the fact that it is for ALL PEOPLE! – Luke 2:10

B. The gospel is for all people, regardless of how different they might be! – Gal. 3:26-29; James 2:1-4

C. We simply cannot “give up” on anyone when it comes to the opportunity to hear the good news!

III. The Gospel is a gift! – Romans 6:23

A. The Gospel is a free gift, meaning that you do not have to earn your way to heaven. – Eph. 2:8

B. Paul had many reasons to boast about what he had done for the Lord, but he chose to boast in the Gospel. – Phil. 3:4b-7; Rom. 1:14-15

C. ALL men and women are justified by faith, but not apart from obedience. – Rom. 1:17, 1:5

The Gospel of Jesus Christ really is “good news”! It does not matter what you have done or what mistakes you have made. Jesus offers you a gift of “good news” this morning. It is the gift of salvation and is the greatest gift you can receive. Romans 10:16 says, “However, they did not all heed the good news…” Will you?
